July/August 2010

Dear Partner in Ministry,May and June were the busiest months in the history of the Pregnancy Care Center.  We had a total of 150 client visits, with 86 people coming for the first time.  Because we keep detailed records on each visit, I could tell you how many of these clients are married, how old they are, their ethnicity, etc.  But time and space prevent me from telling you the circumstances which brought each one to the Center – the pregnant women who have been abandoned by their boyfriends; the lives impacted by drug and alcohol abuse; the grandmothers who have opened their hearts and homes to little ones with nowhere else to go; and on and on.     Each client has her own special story, but they all have something in common: every single one is a precious soul for whom our Savior died.  Because we truly believe that, we strive to demonstrate the love of Christ to each one.  With permission, we ask every new client about his or her relationship with God, present the gospel, and offer a Bible and devotional literature.  We get all sorts of responses, including a woman who said, “Do I have to talk about all of this stuff just to get some Pampers?” (She got the diapers and accepted a copy of Our Daily Bread.) We find that most people believe that we are saved by the good works that we do.  It is rare and refreshing to find someone who understands what the Bible teaches about salvation.  Of course, our biggest thrill is to lead someone to a saving relationship with Christ.  Seven people made first-time commitments during May and June, including a brother and sister who came in separately on the same day.  Eight others rededicated their lives to the Lord.  Hallelujah! Many times we are very limited in the practical help that we can provide.  We freely give out clothing and diapers, but we can’t supply a job, housing, or a devoted partner.  However, we can and do point each client to the One who can meet her deepest needs.  By doing so, we are serving our Lord Who said, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”  (Matthew 25:40)Would YOU like to be a part of this exciting ministry?  If you are a born-again Christian woman who is able to volunteer 4 hours/week, God may be calling you.  We need volunteers to be trained as:
·        Receptionists - to answer the phone, greet clients, and do some basic record-keeping.
·        Client advocates - to teach Earn While You Learn lessons to individual pregnant women.  Each lesson has a video or DVD, viewer guide, and homework assignment.  No teaching experience is necessary and on-the-job training will be provided.Volunteer training for both receptionists and client advocates will be held on Saturday, September 11th, from 9 AM – 4 PM.  A free lunch will be provided.  Please contact me at 642-2677 and I will send you a volunteer application.  I look forward to hearing from you.
                                             In His service,
     Janet E. McPherson
 Executive Director
May – June Ministry
We saw 86 new clients and had 64 return visits, including 44 Earn While You Learn lessons.  Four clients graduated from the EWYL program.  Seven clients made first-time commitments to Christ and eight rededicated their lives.  We performed 7 pregnancy tests and gave out lots of Bibles, booklets, clothing and diapers.
 Thank you!
The ladies of Cherry Grove Baptist Church held a wonderful baby shower for the Center.  We also received several bags of baby supplies from Westminster Presbyterian Church.  Special monetary donations came from Pleasant Plains Baptist Church Women On Mission, First Presbyterian Church VBS, and Pleasant Plains Baptist Church VBS.  God bless each one for your generosity.
